Bar Heaters

Newelco has been at the forefront of the induction heating industry since its inception over half a century ago. Newelco continuous bar heaters, designed and built to feed automatic forging machines, hot shear lines, and rolling mills, are used by leading forging manufacturers throughout the world.

It is Newelco's unique bar delivery systems and induction coil design combined with state of the art frequency converters and computer technology that provide our customers with the most efficiently heated bar stock for their forging process.

Newelco's unmatched experience, design ability, and manufacturing resources ensure that our customers are provided with the ultimate in heating capabilities to produce the most cost effective forgings with minimal energy costs, optimum temperatures/control, long die life, and minimal downtime. In addition, the compact Newelco bar heaters require minimal space.

Why Choose a Bar Heater?

Increased Up-Time
Reduced Power Consumption
Higher Quality Output
Improved Die Life
Greater Productivity

Standby mode enables bars to be held at forging temperatures, allowing immediate startup after short stoppages due to tooling or press malfunction
Coil shuttles ensure the changeover of coils is achieved in typically three minutes
Microprocessor control can calculate and store specific component parameters including voltage settings, bar speed and QA management information
Bar storage systems and loaders ensure the induction heater delivers the heated bar stock to the forging equipment automatically or semi-automatically

SFR Series Heaters

The SFR series of induction heating equipment are provided for the rapid and virtually scale free heating of round/square metal bars to a uniform forging temperature. Newelco systems are highly automated and are admirably suited for use with various types of forging machines. A fully automatic bar feed system supplies the heater section with bars of varying diameter and length and these characteristics are dependent upon the specific installation and the induction coils in use. The bars are fed to the heater section at a constant preset speed, where they are then passed on water cooled rollers through the induction coils, to the pinch rolls of the press.

The equipment consists of the following basic items:

1. Heater section
2. Control desk
3. Automatic bar feeder
4. Converter

The medium frequency supply to the induction coils is provided by the converter and the output from the converter is fed via coaxial cables to the main contacts of the earthing switches which are located in the heater cubicle. The heater section is of welded steel construction and is mounted upon a pivoting point. Where two sections are used, the fixed or first section is supplied with anti-vibration mountings.

The induction coils, together with the bar drive equipment, are mounted on the top of the heater section and the capacitors are mounted internally. The current and potential transformers for the equipment instrumentation and the potential transformer for the over-voltage relay, are also located within the heater section and access is provided by pressed steel hinged doors with interlocking devices and bolt-on access panels.

The common electrical and water connections are fed through the top plates to the induction coils. The impedance of the heater induction coils presents a highly inductive load to the medium frequency circuit. This must be compensated by the addition of capacitors, as the converter requires to operate into a load possessing a leading power factor. These power factor correction capacitors are connected across the medium frequency supply.

Newelco can design the induction bar heater to customers specific details and as our range of bar heater is so extensive, Newelco may already have the design for your requirements.

Newelco has Induction bar heaters ranging from 500Hz - 10KHz depending on bar diameter and temperatures and capacities of 250kg/hr to 25000kg/hr.
